birthdays: december 14

Celia Weston, 59, beloved and uber-talented (and totally snubbed universally by awards bodies aside from an ensemble nod for In the Bedroom and an Indie Spirit nod for Dead Man Walking) character actress last seen as Cam’s handsy mom on Modern Family, her first big role was as Jolene on the TV series Alice; she was also fantastic as the mother of Sean Penn’s murder victim in Dead Man Walking, town gossip Mona Lauder in Far From Heaven, and especially the hard-t0-please, intimidating mother-in-law Peg in Junebug
Dee Wallace, 62, best known for playing struggling single mom Mary in E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, her other notable roles in an extensive filmography include horror fare such as the original The Hills Have Eyes, The Howling, Cujo, Critters (I know, it’s hardly horror – let’s call it “creature feature”), The Frighteners, and the 2007 remake of Halloween and television work on Murder, She Wrote, L.A. Law, Ally McBeal, and My Name is Earl
Frances Bavier, (1902-1989), acting as surrogate aunt and mother to countless TV-watching children in the 1960s couldn’t have been easy, but as Aunt Bee Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show and Mayberry, R.F.D., she delivered with homespun goodness and a whole lot of home-baked pies; on top of 10 years as Aunt Bee, the woman who got her big break in 1951’s The Day the Earth Stood Still has an Emmy to show for it
Patty Duke, 64, America’s sweetheart during the 1960s, she started as a child star before winning the Academy Award at 16 for portraying Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker (though I think we can all agree that should’ve been Angela Lansbury’s to lose); following her big film break, she headlined The Patty Duke Show for three seasons, garnered three Emmys for her later television work, served as president of the Screen Actors Guild in the ’80s, and gave birth to child star and later adult Samwise Gamgee, Sean Astin
Tammy Blanchard, 34, though she got her start in soaps with a recurring role on Guiding Light, she got a huge break playing the title character in the TV movie Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows, a role that earned her a Golden Globe nomination and an Emmy win; since, she most notably appeared as the title character in the TV movie remake of Sybill and recently as Nicole Kidman’s sister in the film adaptation of Rabbit Hole
Natascha McElhone, 41, British actress who’s big roles have included the elusive Sylvia in The Truman Show, Sara in Lisa Cholodenko’s Laurel Canyon, and George Clooney’s love interest in the ill-fated Solaris; currently, she’s starring alongside David Duchovny in Showtime’s Californication
Michaela Watkins, 39, most famous for her one-season wonder stint on Saturday Night Live (does anybody else think she was too good to let go so soon?), whose most notable characters included Barbara Walters and Hoda Kotb; she’s also done some television work including guest spots in Grey’s Anatomy and Malcolm in the Middle and a recurring role on The New Adventures of Old Christine
Lee Remick, (1935-1991), she earned an Academy Award nomination for 1962’s Days of Wine and Roses, but she’s perhaps most remembered as the unfortunate mother of devil-child Damien in The Omen; she also starred in Anatomy of a Murder, The Europeans, and The Long, Hot Summer

Can't believe Blanchard's 34, too bad she didn't fulfill on the promise of her work as Judy.

  2. Luke says :

I don't know – I kind of dug her performance in Rabbit Hole…. that casting director did a great job picking a deadringer for Dianne Wiest!
